What does it cost to be a Pirate?
Through fundraising and proceeds from our Memorial Day Tournament, we provide significant support to each Pirates player so that we can maintain low player costs and still provide players with the equipment, uniforms, facilities, and playing opportunities they need to excel. We also provide scholarships so that all players can participate regardless of finances.
Costs are:
-
8u - Player registration is $650 which covers all team fees and includes two game jerseys, practice shirt, hat, socks and one pair of pants.
-
9u/10u/11u/12u - Player registration is $700 which covers all team fees and includes two game jerseys, practice shirt, hat, socks and two pairs of pants.
*Players can expect to play in approximately 5 tournaments per summer. Additional fees may be applied for all divisions throughout the summer to cover tournament costs. Tournament fees typically range from $75-$100 per player / per tournament.
What about playing time?
The Half Moon Bay Pirates are a competitive team. In general, there are no minimum play requirements, though some tournaments have their own rules. Coaches will set lineups based on their evaluation of the talent/skill level, effort and attitude of each player. Playing time is earned, not granted. Coaches will endeavor to provide as much varied playing experience as possible for each child while still being as competitive as possible. Our goal is to continue to develop players while striving to win, in a fun, learning environment.

Which teams are coach-pitch and which are kid-pitch?
All 7U and 8U teams generally play in coach-pitch tournaments. Starting with the 9U team, it is all kid-pitch. This is one of the reasons that our 8U teams do not typically play into the fall. Most tournaments after July 31st follow the USSSA calendar, which means that our 8U teams are considered a 9U team after that date and would have to compete in kid-pitch tournaments as a 9U team. We feel that it is in the kids' best interest to give them the fall and the following spring in Little League to prepare for kid-pitch.
